Historic Friedens Church is located in the beautiful farmland of Geronimo, Texas. Friedens United Church of Christ has faithfully served the Geronimo, Seguin, New Braunfels, and San Marcos communities of Texas since 1896. The church was founded deep in the heart of Texas by German pioneers who settled the land as farmers and ranchers.

Friedens means "Peace" in the German language, and the Peace of Christ is at the heart of our life and faith.

Today you will find both a traditional and contemporary community of faith comprised of the diverse culture of South Central Texas. Our families live on the farms and ranches of historic Geronimo, and in the new neighborhoods of the growing metropolitan areas between San Antonio and Austin.

Be part of history! Come celebrate 124 years of faith at Friedens Church in beautiful rural Geronimo with engaging pastors Dave and Sonja Phillips!  You will fall in love with this welcoming community. Sunday services include childcare for ages 5 and under.

  • Impotant Update in Response to Recent COVID Spikes in Community

    January 6,2021

    Dear Friedens Family,

The Church Council and Pastors continue to watch closely the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and the current hospitalization rates in Guadalupe County and the surrounding area. At the end of December, Guadalupe County and Comal County reported COVID positivity rates above 15% (the percentage of all COVID tests performed in a given time period that are actually positive). Guadalupe County also reported last week that we are now in an area with a high COVID-19 hospitalization rate (an area with 7 consecutive days where the number of COVID hospitalized patients exceeds 15% of hospital capacity). (More information from Guadalupe County is available at https://www.co.guadalupe.tx.us/commcourt/covid-19.php )

At this time, we will continue to meet for in person worship services. To help ensure the health and wellbeing of all who attend, it is essential that we closely follow all safety guidelines in place for our worship services. Please find the complete list of guidelines enclosed in this newsletter.

The Church Council and Pastors will continue to closely monitor the ongoing situation, and will remain in close communication. We ask that all of us understand our own level of risk regarding COVID-19, and that we all do our part in reducing it’s spread.

We appreciate everyone’s continued support and understanding during this time. Together we will continue to be in prayer for our congregation and community.

    Kyle Bading

Council President, on behalf of the Friedens Church Council

Friedens Chuch Indoor Worship Guidelines- COVID

Friedens Church is committed to the health and well-being of all in our congregation. As we resume in-person worship services, the following guidelines have been put in place to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus.

    • Masks must be worn at all times while you are on the church campus and while you are around others. Masks must be kept on during the entire worship service.
    • Nursery services will not be provided during worship services until we are confident that we can provide a safe Nursery space for children and workers
    • Temperature checks will be done on all attendees as they enter. Anyone reading a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will not be admitted.
    • All doors will be propped open for touch free entry.
    • Hand sanitizer will be provided at entrances/exits.
    • Do not congregate outside or in the Narthex.
    • Refrain from shaking hands, hugging, or other physical contact with others.
    • Proceed directly inside and be seated as directed by an usher.
    • Families may sit together with at least 6 feet of distance between each group. Seating will be in every other pew, alternating side to side.
    • The congregation will not be singing hymns or worship songs as signing has been shown to pose a greater risk of spreading COVID-19.
    • To reduce person-to-person contact, offering plates will not be passed. An offering box will be stationed in the Narthex so that offering may be left as you enter or exit.
    • On Communion Sundays, communion elements will be available at a table in the Narthex to be picked up as you enter.
    • At the conclusion of the service, remain seated until dismissed by an usher.
    • All doors will be propped open for touch free exit.
    • Do not congregate in the Narthex area or outside. Please proceed directly to your vehicle.
    • The church will be cleaned and sanitized after each service.
    • If you feel sick or show any symptoms of COVID-19, please remain at home.
    • Per CDC guidelines*, older adults and people of any age who have serious, underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. It is important to understand your own level of risk, as well as the level of risk of loved ones or those you may regularly come in close contact with when deciding to attend in person worship services.

We ask for your patience and understanding during this time, and also respect for others in the congregation that may feel it necessary to be more cautious. No matter your personal comfort level, others may still choose to refrain from close personal contact, including close conversation, handshaking, hugging, etc., or may choose to remain at home.
